World Bank Development Data Partnership - UX Research and Design
The Problem
The World Bank Development Data Partnership (DDP) has grown significantly in the past two years, and its current portal does not meet its members’ needs. The DDP team hopes to build a new portal; I was brought on to think through the design.
Determining my Focus Areas
Because my engagement on the project was limited, I first ran a prioritization activity with the DDP staff using my tried and tested MoSCoW matrix approach. I compiled the team results and determined the following focus areas:
- Redesign the proposal manager
- Redesign the dataset manager
Creating a New Primary Path
Based on semi-structured interviews I did with the DDP team and members, and after an assessment of the current portal, I used Visio to create two iterations of a new primary path. This ensured the DDP team was clear on my proposed direction before prototyping began. (Note the image is intentionally blurred.)
Creating a New Taxonomy
During my interviews with the DDP staff, one repeated need was better discoverability of current assets, such as proposals, datasets and methodologies. Whether through filters or a keyword search, this required creating a new taxonomy for a new relational database. I went through two iterations (picture is intentionally blurred).
The Solution
Finally bringing everything together, I created three prototypes for the team:
- Portal Homepage, Admin Perspective
- Proposal Search and Manager, Admin Perspective
- Proposal Submission, Development Partner Perspective
Within these prototypes, new solutions I created were a proposal submission steps page, a proposal submission guidance tool, a proposal submission manager, several new forms, and new search functions. Pictured below are sample wireframes (intentionally blurred). I will post a public version of a prototype soon.
